FTTH Pilot in Bern, Switzerland

 FTTH Pilot in Bern, Switzerland

In Switzerland, a small pilot project has been announced by EWB, the energy/water public utility of the city of Bern. The pilot will connect 50 households and 10 businesses with fiber. Unlike the example of EWZ (the energy/water utility counterpart in Zurich) “les Bernois” plan to feed 2 fibers per end-point and are considering policy measures to avoid infrastructure duplication.

The City council has already planned a meeting about the matter on March. City approval will certainly increase the odds for the project’s success.

Interestingly, the Socialist party has already asked for a city wide FTTH network. According to the Socialists, only public management can ensure non-discriminatory access to the citizens.
