Costas Troulos is a consultant in the TMT industry.

He became acquainted with personal computing at the age of 9, when his father bought him an ATARI 600XL as a present for his birthday. After the momentary happiness, he soon realized that the gift had nothing to do with the synonymous popular game console that most of his friends enjoyed in the evenings after school. He decided to spend most of his school years programming in BASIC – he’s still undecided whether that was for better or worse. He loved to copy fascinating  programming code from software magazines that did not work and to play magnetic tapes with fancy binary tunes that were used to load software and games on the machine.

He started his career in the IT & Telecommunications Industry during the market boom of the 90’s. He saw the national internet connectivity in Greece growing from 9,600 bps to multitudes of Gigabits per second today. He knows the BBS, and the dial-up sound of an analogue modem. He was fortunate to see information and communication technologies transforming our lives, society and business forever.

Costas holds an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and an MBA in entrepreneurship from the University of Louisville, USA. He has also obtained a PhD in technology policy from the National Technical University of Athens.

    Hi Costas,
I live in UK for the last 35 years, and I have been working for the last 25 years in Satellite and Cable communications.
Right now I am working for VIRGIN MEDIA.
I am planning to come back to Greece soon to build fibre optics networks. (FTTH or FTTN). Could you please let me know if this is a good time? As far as I know Greece is so under develop in fibre than most of the EEC counties.

    John,

you can get information on recent developments in ftth governmental financing in my early September posts. Fiber access is something that is clearly missing from the Greek telecommunications market. If you can get financing and orchestrate a sound business model & plan you may want to consider coming south!
